Application Form

The ICP workshops series is organised twice per year under the auspices of the European Ph.D. Network on International Climate Policy (ICP). It aims to offer doctoral candidates the opportunity to present their research ideas and results, receive feedback, and exchange information and assistance in an informal setting. Contributions of Ph.D. students from all disciplines working on topics relevant to climate policy are invited.

Participation is free of charge, but participants are expected to cover their travel and accommodation expenses.

We seek to bring together 30-40 Ph.D. students, who present and discuss their work. Each presentation will be followed by comments of a fellow Ph.D. candidate and a discussion of the paper. There will be a small number of places available for participants without own presentation. However, active involvement is required. Each participant may be asked to serve as a discussant for a presentation in a related field.

Details about the workshop and the application process are given in the Call for Papers.

Accommodation and Transport

Information on accommodation can be found at www.freiburg.de. The only DJH youth hostel (http://freiburg.jugendherberge-bw.de) is quite far from the city centre, but more central budget accommodation might be available at www.blackforest-hostel.de.

The workshop will take place at the Faculty for Forest and Environmental Sciences (Tennenbacher Straße 4) on Thursday and at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Heidenhofstraße 2) on Friday, both with good access to local public transport.

Details on the local public transport network are available at www.rvf.de, and long-distance train connections can be found at www.bahn.de. We encourage travelling to the workshop by train, however, if you need to travel by air, the Euroairport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg is closest http://www.euroairport.com.

About Freiburg and the Workshop

Located in the triangular of Germany, Switzerland and France, close to the Black Forest, Jura and Voges, Freiburg's 220.000 inhabitants make it the largest city in southwest Germany. Founded in 1120, tradition and modernism blend into a harmonic mixture: While Freiburg is the vibrant cultural and economic center of the Black Forest region, it has managed to keep its traditional flair and a laid-back charm. More than 30.000 students make it a young city. Together with excellent local food and wine, the pleasant climate of Germany's warmest region and the beautiful landscape make Freiburg one of the most favorite destinations in Germany.

The 24th ICP workshop will be hosted and receives funding by the Graduate School of Environment, Society and Global Change of the University of Freiburg and the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems. It will be organized in close cooperation with the Institute of Forest and Environmental Policy, the Department of Political Science, and the Department of Economic Policy and Constitutional Economic Theory.
